MEET THE TEAM

MEET THE TEAM

It’s all about the people. There’s no me or us or them, it’s just we. And things are done this way so that we can have a better life.
HX5 is about community. The trainers are also a part of the community and play a very special role in it. It is important to have confidence and to find a basis upon which you can build together. Only in this way will you develop step by step, reach your goals, and give your life a positive turn.

In order to ensure that everyone feels fully supported by us and our box, our trainers are professionally trained at the highest level. During their comprehensive training sessions, they adapt to the individual needs of everyone and thus become reliable training partners that you can count on. Below, you can get to know our trainers a bit better

MEET THE TEAM

ROB

Rob has been coaching CrossFit since 2015 after opening HX5 with his brother Chris!

After leaving the military in 2013 Rob pursued a career in fitness! CrossFit and it’s core values, especially it's community spirit is everything to Rob and HX5. Rob is a keen ultra runner completing various trail runs all over the UK, Cyprus and Germany!! In his late 20s he moved to triathlons finishing with the IRONMAN FRANCE 2017!

When not in the box he loves to spend time with his wife Amy and their daughters on camping trips away!

CHRIS

Chris built CrossFit HX5 with his brother Rob in 2015. Having studied and completed a Batchelor of science degree in Sports Coaching; Chris began his profession working one to one with athletes and the public. Having established The Fitness Suite in 2011, a studio that specialises in one-to-one training he later saw a gap in an emerging market to bring CrossFit to West Yorkshire. CrossFit aligned with Chris' personal philosophy.... fitness should be functional and so his own training led him down the path of exercising at various CrossFit boxes before HX5 was born. Now, Chris will be found running the everyday tasks of the business and dealing directly with the athletes, their memberships all whilst planning and implementing various different new developments within the business. In his spare time he loves to cycle and can often be found on long weekends in the countryside whether up a fell or spending quality time with family.

TOBY

Toby discovered Crossfit in 2015 after a long history of participating in various endurance events (including the Marathon des Sables in 2004), and has never looked back. He is married to Luan and has two girls, Ellen and Olivia (all of whom are members of HX5). He passed his CL1 course in 2017 and followed it up with Crossfit Kids and Crossfit Gymnastics courses. He loves coaching people, focussing on form and virtuosity of movement. Toby is an active member of the HX5 community and loves a social event! His favourite WoD is Murph!

SARAH

Sarah has always been active but after years in the gym she grew bored of solo workouts and was convinced by her husband to join a CrossFit box. 4 years later she is still blown away with the grit and determination shown by others and enjoys the skill and challenges CrossFit brings.  For the last two years Sarah has been involved with the CrossFit kids programme, having three young children of her own she understands the benefits of this programme when improving their confidence and fitness.

Having made friends for life Sarah enjoys the social element of HX5 and is always encouraging and supportive and is excited to be able to dedicate time and effort into coaching at HX5.

BEN

After leaving education in 1998 Ben has worked for the same company for over 20 years in various computer program development roles.

He discovered CrossFit in 2015 when he was struggling to motivate himself in his solo gym sessions, he hasn’t looked back since. In Bens words, “The camaraderie and passion shown by those I have trained alongside has been inspiring and infectious”. Ben has 2 young boys, both of whom have also started their CrossFit journey in the CrossFit Kids program. Pursuing the CrossFit Trainer Certificates, Bens focus is ensuring that athletes are safe and consistent in their movements.

JOVANNI

Weightlifter turned crossfitter, Jovanni came to the dark side during the 2019 CrossFit open. He loves everything CrossFit has to offer whether it’s how much weight you can lift, how well you can control your body during gymnastic movements, or how much you can tolerate lactic acid build up to stay ahead of the competition! He’s passionate about fitness whether be it taking part himself or coaching others. This inspired him to pursue a career in personal training and believes in the saying “love what you do and you’ll never have to work a single day in your life”. He loves the community aspect of CrossFit (everyone does) and has met great people with similar stories, goals and mindset! He’s favourite WOD is Grace (typical weightlifter) even though he’s one and only attempt at it is when he was an unfit weightlifter.

JEMMA

I have been involved in sport from a young age. My passion before having my boys was Taekwondo which I did for over 10 years, where I competed at a European level as well as coaching it. Taekwondo is a full contact sport; I wanted to have some time out, so decided to try something new and that’s when I fell in love with Crossfit. I've been doing CrossFit for a few years now and I’ve grown to love olympic lifting. Before any qualifications I worked with Jovanni to progress my Olympic lifting! I'm now a certified Level 4 Strength & Conditioning coach, I'm also a qualified practitioner in post natal and hold my level 2 qualification! I love seeing people crushing goals and using what they learn in the gym to create a better life platform!
I love to inspire my kids to live stronger lives
by demonstrating a healthy active lifestyle!

GEMMA

Gemma joined HX5 in 2020 ! She has always been into keeping fit through running  and attending commercial gym classes, but once she started CrossFit there was no looking back !

Pre 2020 and training to be the slimmest version of herself , to now training to move faster and lift heavier.  CrossFit has changed the way she trains forever. 3 years on and a lot of competitions under her belt she is still as eager as ever to get to the gym and jump on the class WOD.

Gemma started coaching at HX5 in 2022 and often helps out on the Kids class, showing the younger generation that lifting weights and training can be fun !

LUCY

After being a gymnast in her younger years Lucy found Crossfit in 2015 and through this fell in love with Olympic Weightlifting. She is passionate about body positivity and fitness being inclusive for everyone. Her favourite thing about being a part of HX5 is the community.

In 2020 she took the leap and did her Personal Training and Weightlifting qualifications and joined the coaching team. Shes bright and loud and can throw 100 kilos above her head #StrongWomenGoals

When she’s not in the gym (which isn’t very often), you can probably find her enjoying a glass of wine because balance.. right?!
